The Judges of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California have approved proposed modifications to Criminal Local Rule 56.1. Pursuant to Civil Local Rule 83-2(b), the Court hereby posts the proposed modifications for public comment. The proposed modifications and a redlined version of the changes are attached.
Local Criminal Rule 56-1 prohibited electronic filing of sealed criminal documents, but this prohibition had been suspended during the COVID pandemic. The Court now proposes amendments to the local rule eliminating that prohibition and prescribing the procedure for parties to file electronically sealed criminal documents and associated documents (e.g., motions to seal and proposed orders).
