  • Applicants called in for an interview for the Clerk’s Office will be given tests to determine their level of skill.

Solicitation for Court Reporting Services Blanket Purchase Agreement (.pdf, 223 KB)

This is a solicitation for proposals to enter into a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) for contracting court reporting services for the United States District Court - Northern District of California. The Court intends to award BPAs to one or more court reporters found to meet the court’s qualifications.

The Court reserves the right not to make any awards as a result of this solicitation. Award of a BPA does not guarantee that the contractor will receive orders for any particular aggregate dollar value, or in fact that any orders at all, for court reporting services.

Contractors responding to this solicitation should carefully review the Statement of Work, the minimum qualifications required, the court’s maximum transcript fee rates (non-negotiable including real-time feeds), and the BPA terms and conditions, all of which will be incorporated into any Blanket Purchase Agreement awarded under this solicitation.

Contractors wishing to be considered for this BPA must complete and return the pages in the attachment CAND_CR_BPA_Form_Fillable. Note, for each prospective contract court reporter, a minimum of 3 references must be identified for whom the reporter has performed work within 3-year period.

Please note that at this time our need is for in-person, not remote contract court reporters. Occasionally accommodation for remote reporting might occur but it will be offered only to those who are willing to provide in-person reporting.

The solicitation will be open for the period of March 28, 2024 through April 12, 2024. All forms must be submitted by 2:00 PM on April 12th. The contract period will run May 1, 2024 – April 30, 2025.

Official Court Reporter (.pdf, 126 KB)

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California is seeking an Official Court Reporter in San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose, California. Court reporters balance in-person courtroom work with substantial opportunities to report while teleworking. Occasional travel within the district is likely.
Being an official court reporter involves:
• Working as part of a team of reporters for the judges of the court.
• Attending, recording verbatim by shorthand reporting, and uploading files of proceedings held before judges. Reading back the record as required.
• Producing transcripts at a high volume, including a significant amount of daily work.
• For some criminal matters, creating audio recordings in addition to shorthand notes.
• Being guided by and responsible for following the policies and administrative procedures contained in the Court Reporter Management Plan.
• Performing administrative duties at a high level, including billing for transcripts, financial and other record keeping, preparation and filing of required Administrative Office reports, and responding to correspondence.

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California is seeking a Case Administration Supervisor in San Francisco, California. This position is located in the Clerk’s Office, and reports to the Director of Case Administration. The incumbent oversees Data Quality Analyst and supervises docket/intake clerks at the main office in San Francisco. The Supervisor is also responsible for the maintenance of the court record, including case initiation, docketing new court filings, appeals and exhibits. The incumbent is responsible for planning, organizing and reviewing work and establishing policies and procedures to ensure excellent customer service and efficient processing of documents. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California is seeking a Data Quality Specialist in San Francisco, California. The position is located in the Clerk’s Office of the U.S. District Court. Data Quality Specialists are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of a court unit’s case information database. Data Quality Specialists provide quality assurance of electronic entries into CM/ECF, provide CM/ECF training, maintain the CSA Manual, identify problems and recommend solutions. The incumbent maintains the court dictionary and test new versions of case management systems. (Priority consideration to applicants who apply by November 1, 2024)
